If you have just found out you are pregnant, whether it is your first time or your fifth time, it is an exciting moment. You may be panicking about what to do next. While there about 15 different books you could read that will give you a wealth of advice, we have summarised the important stuff here. Here are the first things you should take care of:
Tell your partner
If you are in the position to tell your partner then that should be your first task. Of course, if you don’t have a partner then tell someone else. Tell a family member, tell a friend, or tell a stranger. Whether you plan to go into parenthood alone or with a partner it is always better to tell someone. This can help you feel less anxious about the whole experience.
Stop taking drugs
While we all know that you shouldn’t smoke, drink or take drugs while pregnant many people forget about the prescribed medication. Make sure you stop taking any drugs you are on and ask your doctor before taking them again.Â
Book an appointment
While in the very early stages of pregnancy there is little to worry about you should still book an appointment with your doctor or OB-GYN. Their schedules fill up fast so book in as soon as you can. One of the early concerns in pregnancy is the threat of a miscarriage so your doctor will likely advise you on what things to look out for.Â
Take extra vitamins
It is important to eat healthy before, during, and after pregnancy. We have also heard from many doctors that it is a good idea to take vitamins to make sure the body is in perfect condition. Folic acid has been proven to be very good for pre and during pregnancy.
Keep exercising (or start)
Many pregnant women think it is best to stay on the couch for nine months as they don’t want to upset the baby. As long as you are not doing any form of exercise that involves a direct impact on the baby it is a good idea to keep going. Exercise is really important as labor is physically exhausting. Being fit and ready for the procedure is very important and also great for the baby.
Rest a lot
While exercise is important, getting rest is too. During normal everyday life, we sometimes cut back on our sleep to make sure we can do other things. We shouldn’t, sleep is hugely important. If you are pregnant it is now vital that you get all the rest you need. Ensure you are getting more than 7 hours a night of sleep and pay attention to your body. If you are tired, rest.
Prepare a will
It is the last thought on anyone’s mind but it is important. You now have a new life on the way that is dependent on you. Prepare a will to reflect that. Once the baby arrives you will not have the time.
Announce your pregnancy
Don’t have a reveal the gender party. Those are terrible. Apart from that announce it however you want. Many people wait until after the first trimester to ensure the baby is safe and everything is in order. If you want to tell people before that, do it. If you want to wait and tell people you are just putting on a few pounds, do that too. Do let your work know as soon as you can so that they can prepare for your maternity leave.
Apart from that just start to prepare your house for the little one’s arrival and get ready for a lot more love in your life.
