It is hard to imagine, but for over 39 years two women from Moldova lived under the assumption that they were someone else. How that came, you read in this story. It was in the late 1970s, when the Moldavian Vera and Nikolay Lashtur were pregnant with their first child. Nine months later it was time for Vera to be admitted to the hospital to give birth to a little girl. Everything went well and the little Tatjana came healthy and well. The girl had to stay in the hospital for a few days before she was allowed to go home. In the meantime, apparently something went wrong in the hospital and little Tatjana was exchanged with baby Valentina, who was born the same day . So it happened that the two girls grew up in each other’s family, who knew nothing of this gigantic error. And so Tatjana lived all the time with the organic parents of Valentina, while Valentina lived with Tatyana’s parents. Not long after both girls had left the hospital, there were stories that a misunderstanding could have occurred and the babies had been changed, but that was never really done.
This was mainly because the Lashtur family did not know where the other family lived. They had no clues to contact them and to find out what was going on. “It was rumored that the children would have been accidentally swapped after birth, but we could not trace the other family,” said Anatoliy Lashtur. He also wanted to know if his sister Tatjana was his real sister. For years it was sought and tried to find a trace, but without result. When the Lashtur family emigrated to the United States some 20 years later (in 1999), it did not seem to be possible anymore.
Until the family in some way found a clue . Through Facebook they found a young lady and a name that might know more. It turned out to be Valentina Suan. Anatoliy then contacted her. When he also saw baby pictures of the woman, he knew enough. That had to be his sister. “We were very similar when we were babies.” The Lashtur family then decided to fly to Valentina, who lived in Russia . There they would do a DNA test, which should prove the truth.
Prior to contact with the Lashtur family, Victoria had no idea that she might have been confused at birth . However, she also saw that she had few similarities with her parents and family, but no light had come on. In a Russian television show was finally announced that the two 39-year-old ladies indeed after birth appeared to have been swapped and ended up in another family. Anatoliy: “We all burst into crying and gave each other a big hug.” It would not change the relationship between him and Tatyana. She had always been his sister , even though that did not turn out to be true now. “The only difference is that I have a sister now!”
How could it happen that the two were exchanged in the hospital? Their mothers apparently shared the same room at the time. The two girls were both taken for a bath after their birth and when they were brought back they were accidentally confused. Watch the video of this remarkable story below:
