Vitamin D is fat-soluble and is responsible for a number of positive actions within the body. These actions include the promotion of calcium absorption, growth and mineral absorption in the bones, and support to the digestive and circulatory systems of the body. Vitamin D is also thought to play a role in the prevention of illnesses like diabetes, cancer, and depression.

My body was once extremely deficient of Vitamin D. I did not know this until the effects of this problem began to affect my body and I was experiencing extreme pain.

I experienced a great amount of pain in my joints for quite some time before I finally went to a doctor in search of answers. This is when I learned my body was severely deficient in Vitamin D.

I was prescribed medication by my doctor. However, like most people, I was unaware of the fact that no matter how many medications or supplements I consume there is no better source of Vitamin D than the sun.

It is not uncommon for a large number of adults to suffer from Vitamin D deficiency. However, children and infants have been known to also suffer from this malady.

One problem associated with deficient levels of Vitamin D is the inability of your body to absorb calcium. This can be a serious problem due to the fact calcium is a necessity for strong bones and teeth. It is important to know that the function and ability to absorb many of the vitamins and minerals we need are dependent on one another.

People today do not spend nearly as much time outside as they did in the past. There are many reasons for this but the bottom line is the failure to spend enough time in the sunlight can set the stage for serious health problems later.

It is understandable that many people do not appreciate much time outside under the sweltering heat of the sun. However, the winter months are upon us and it is a lot more tolerable at this time to spend half an hour or so in direct sunlight. If possible, this half-hour should be spent sometime between 10 A.M and 3 P.M. You will be surprised just how much this small effort will benefit your body.

While you are definitely on the right track by spending time in the sun. There are also other things you can do to improve the levels of vitamin D in your body. You should first see a doctor to have your vitals checked. Ask your doctor to also measure the level of Vitamin D in your body. You should also include foods in your diet that will increase your vitamin D levels.

Regardless of how long it has been since you have neglected this aspect of your health, it is never too late to change your behavior and provide your body with the support it needs.
