History behind the ugly Christmas sweater

All of us enjoy the Christmas season with great enthusiasm and cheer. This is a festival to celebrate all that Jesus Christ gave us.

Let’s move over from the twinkling fir trees and wreaths, stockings, and other Santa things. Over the years, one new trend has been going on in yuletide culture, which is an ugly Christmas sweater.

You must be well aware of this one. It is a pullover, which comes in red, white, and green color. It often has a questionable fabric along with at least one motif which is inspired by Christmas.

The motif printed on it includes snowman, reindeer, tinsel, and candy canes. You can score extra points if you can get a 3 D pom-pom or even with jingle bells.

In no time, this garment has become an essential thing for the holidays, everywhere, which include Christmas lighting and gift wrapping paper. It’s not worth a watch and tacky as wholesome, but also it is unique and one of a kind. This fashion is equivalent to a Hallmark Christmas movie!

When was the holiday sweater commercialized?

In the year 1950s, the holiday sweater was commercialized. When this sweater was launched, it was initially named “Jingle Bell Sweaters.” They never really found a huge market place in earlier times. Though, some notable TV personalities flaunted this ugly sweater during the festive season.

With the years ahead, the earlier 1980s were known to make this ugly looking sweater a must-have. The shift drove because of the pop culture as well as comedies. Such characters included goofball dad characters in different series through which they made an unforgettable cheer.

Snowflake-emblazoned sweaters were never considered cool, but they emitted Yule. It was often worn at the office parties and on Christmas Day.

The popularity didn’t last long, and such sweaters again faded away in the year 1990. But, the early 2000s brought a new life to the sweater, and the ugly Christmas sweater kicked off.

The foremost thing that came into the picture was in Vancouver, British Columbia, in the year 2002. Different authors have diversified views regarding the same. Over the years, the ugly Christmas sweater has taken a turn and has been liked by people. It has become a new holiday tradition which has been described by several fashion designers gradually.

High-end retailers like Topshop load their stores with this sweater designs every holiday season. Different vintage shops have chosen this way of selling the sweater. 2012 saw a massive increase in the ugly sweater craze. A fundraiser is known to be behind the boost of this ugly sweater, and several newspapers define it as a must-have.

Many celebrities have been flaunting such fashion senses during the holiday season. Social media has spiced it up and added more craze. The highlight on Instagram made it a worthy enough sweater. Now, different fashion houses have a personalized way of presenting garments!
