While you are pregnant, you ideally want to eat foods that have high nutritional content. Of course, the occasional cheeseburger, pizza or other food craving is perfectly normal, but you do want to make sure you’re getting most of your calories from highly nutritional sources. Consuming fruits and vegetables during pregnancy can help you get your daily supply of necessary minerals and vitamins. Sometimes a plain old apple or orange just doesn’t sound appealing, but there are rarer fruits on the market that you may not have tried yet. For example, passion fruit is a more unique fruit, and it tends to taste both sweet and tangy.

Iron
Passion fruit contains a lot of iron. Your obstetrician may have already informed you that individuals who are pregnant need a lot of iron in their diet. Iron is necessary while you’re pregnant so that you don’t become anemic. If you have anemia, you’ll feel exhausted and out of breath much of the time. Your baby also needs you to keep your iron supply up as well because it helps provide him or her with an adequate amount of oxygen.

Vitamin C
Passion fruit also contains an abundance of vitamin C. Vitamin C is also a necessary vitamin in pregnancy as it helps with collagen production in your baby. It helps with collagen production in your skin as well. In addition, vitamin C may help prevent you from contracting the common cold while pregnant. Plus, it helps keep the cells within your body in optimum condition.

Beta-Cryptoxanthin
While you may not have heard of it before, passion fruit also contains beta-cryptoxanthin. Beta-cryptoxanthin is a carotenoid that may help prevent babies from being born too early.

Riboflavin
In order to ensure that your baby grows well and that your baby’s vision is good, you’ll want to eat foods containing riboflavin. Passion fruit happens to contain riboflavin. This vitamin helps you keep your energy up while pregnant and helps maintain wonderful, glowing skin.

Niacin
Passion fruit contains niacin. Morning sickness can happen with any pregnancy, but some minerals and vitamins can help lessen morning sickness. Niacin is a vitamin that can help alleviate some of your morning sickness symptoms and may help prevent some birth defects. It is also possible that it prevents miscarriages from occurring and is beneficial for the fetal nervous system. On top of all that, niacin has been known to give people boosts of energy.

As you can see, passion fruit is loaded with beneficial nutrition, both for you and for your growing baby.
